Melbourne singer-songwriter Alana Wilkinson is hitting the road - literally - in support of her debut EP, I Wanna Punch On With You. Starting in late May, the versatile songsmith is performing a series of high profile support shows before embarking on an East Coast road trip in her recently acquired 1980’s Toyota van.
“I had the idea to do the road trip for a while”, comments Wilkinson. “So when I found the van – complete with cassette player, fridge and all it’s quirky charm - I just wanted to move in and get rolling.”
The road trip will see Alana busking, playing in venues and doing a series of house concerts via the Parlour Gigs platform. Show hosts can book Alana to come play for their family, friends and pets at http://parlour.tours/alanawilkinson She’s perfectly suited to the intimate nature of house concerts – as one blogger recently wrote, “Alana’s hilariously candid lyrics delivered afloat gentle ukulele lullabies leave you grinning from ear to ear like you have just been gifted with a secret from a friend.”
Before those Parlour gigs kick in, she’ll be opening for a collection of musical friends, old and new, in her home city of Melbourne.
The string of dates starts with the single launch for Feelds (aka James Seymour of Swim Season) at the Workers Club before joining both Pierce Brothers and Bob Evans for shows in Melbourne, on the Mornington Peninsula and in Geelong.
These shows follow a couple of very successful dates with iconic Scottish folk singer Eddi Reader and an appearance at Perth’s Nannup Festival. In and around these shows Alana featured on a number of on-line platforms (AU Review, Punt Sessions, Wickedd Childd, What’s My Scene etc.) community radio programs and on Channel 31’s 1700 show.

It’s been a busy start to the year for the engaging artist, which has also included recording her solo acoustic EP (available exclusively at shows) and writing a series of new songs that will feature on her next recording project that she starts prior to the East Coast road trip. “I made the commitment to pursue music as a full time thing at the start of 2017”, considers Wilkinson. “So far, so good. I’m going to document the road trip – warts and all – and hopefully people will come along for the ride. We will see where it takes me, I guess!”
Dates:
Thursday May 25 - The Workers Club, Fitzroy w/ Feelds (single launch)
Friday May 26 - Croxton Park Hotel w/ Pierce Brothers
Thursday June 1 - Baha, Rye w/ Bob Evans
Friday June 2 - Croxton Park (Front Bar) w/ Bob Evans
